10 Silver Coins You Should Consider Buying Right Now

Every now and again, I find myself wondering what coins should buy next? I have looked into some coins currently on the market and have compiled a list of coins that currently (as in when this was written) are almost all under thirty dollars when you buy in quantities.

I know premiums are crazy right now, but if I had a budget that would allow for ten coins that are in this price point and minted by a Government, these would be what I would select for the various categories below.

10: Caribbean Theme - 2022 Barbados Pelican

This would be the coin I would choose currently to represent the Caribbean nations. Barbados is in my opinion the gold standard of minting quality and diversity in the Caribbean and this coin offers no change to the legacy that has made me invest in many coin from Barbados. This is a coin that is in a series that changes the design every year. I have the last year’s pelican in this series and love it. If you would like to know more before you buy, I would recommend watching my video on the Barbados pelican which can be found under my coin page or on my youtube channel.

9: Nautical Theme - 2022 Dusky Dolphin

Nautical and animal themed coins tend to be some of the most sought after coins in the world. This selection combines both of those elements for a coin that will bring you value and joy for years to come. This is a coin with a particularly low mintage of 25,000 and comes from this historic and renowned Royal Australian Mint. I normally see a higher premium than I am seeing currently for this coin so this is a great time to bring this marine mammal aboard to be a part of your growing collection.

8: Historic Theme - 2022 Sioux Guardian

Hailing from the sovereign Sioux Nation, this coin brings us a touch of beauty and history. We get a great blend of Native American heritage and the wild west as we have a Chief holding a lever action rifle surrounded by a tepee and the rolling hills of what looks to be the Dakota areas of North America. I have one coin from this series and can say that it is among my favorite. If you are a history buff or love the wild west, this coin should be on your list.

7: Overlooked Theme - 2022 Kangaroo

The day I held my first Australian Kangaroo in my hand was the day I wondered why people overlook this coin. We hear so much about Kookaburras, Silver Eagles, and Maples but never seem to be met with the same enthusiasm for the kangaroo. This is a .9999 silver coin from the historically hard to beat Perth mint. It is beyond mass produced meaning that the premiums are usually lower than competitors. There is a security feature and the textures make sure there are no element of this coin one would consider boring.

6: Value Theme -2022 Philharmonic

When it comes to collecting or stacking silver coins, value is one of the most important words. This being said, the 2022 Philharmonic would be the coin I would go to for value. The premiums on the American Silver Eagle are sky high and the Philharmonic are just as beautiful. This coin is one rare exceptions that can be used if you are creating a silver or gold backed IRA and has the historic provenance to be in any collection or stack.

5: Pop Culture Theme - 2022 Rebel Alliance (Star Wars)

There are very few names that carry a higher following than Star Wars. Niue, a small pacific nation is known for excellence in creating popular themed coins. This coin hits the mark strongly with the symbol of the rebel alliance. With the Obi-Wan Kenobi series currently streaming on Disney Plus and many other Star Wars themed series lined up, this coin will be gone fast and is worth consideration

4: Bird Theme- 2022 Bird of Paradise

I am not sure how many coins come out of Papua New Guinea but I hope they mint many in the future if they are this quality. I recently received one of these and it is already one of my most cherished. This is a unique featured friend and has an amazing display from a country that has stories to tell. This coin will delight animal and bird lovers and should be considered for those who collect those themes.

3. Cool Factor Theme: 2022 Australian Coat of Arms

We all know that Australia tends to have some of the coolest coins in existence and this is no different. I have seen renditions of this artwork on coins in my circulation collection but not in silver, but finally my wishes were granted when this coin was minted. It is rare to have Queen Elizabeth as a minor element on an Australian coin but when it is done, there is so much more real-estate for great artwork. We get an amazing scene on the front with the lion and other elements of the monarchy and the back is even more amazing highlighting many elements sacred to Australia.

2: Classic Theme: Krugerrand (any year)

It is really hard to beat the simple and classic design of the Krugerrand. This is a coin that is massed produced so they are easy to find and highly enjoyable in the hand. They are IRA grade and have some really cool hidden security items that can be found under a microscope. If you do not have a microscope, watch my video on the Krugerrand in the coin section of this website or go to the Culture Of Currency YouTube channel and watch. That video is well worth your time.

1: Cheap Theme: Somali Elephant (abrasions)

There are many places including online where you can find lower prices for coins with abrasions. In a personal example, I purchased an Armenian Ark coin with abrasions for significantly less money than the standard Ark. Though not all experiences are the same, my Ark was in great condition and it took me a while to find where the abrasions were. If you have a coin you love and it is just out of reach, check to see if there is an option with abrasions for cheaper. The reason I chose the Somali Elephant is that every year there is a different image and this series is one of the most exciting in the industry. When purchasing a random version of a coin it is like pulling the arm of a slot machine except you know you are getting a silver coin no matter what. It is very exciting. These elephants are great coins and there is the possibility that you end up with a older image that is very hard to find these days.

There are many coins worth this list but I wanted to try and create many different themes so that most people could come away with a coin worth adding to their stack or collection. I hope you will let me know in the comments if you enjoyed this article and want to see more like it in the future!
